Before the Beginning - John 1:1

Before the Beginning - John 1:1

Before the Beginning - John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." – John 1:1 ESV

Everything has a starting point. For us, it's the first step onto the field, the first weight lifted, the first moment we choose discipline over comfort.
But John 1:1 takes us back even further—to the very beginning. And it reminds us that before there was movement, matter, or time… there was Jesus.

He is the Word—God’s voice, presence, and truth all wrapped into one. He wasn’t created. He is. That means your purpose doesn't begin or end with your sport, your talent, or even your goals. It began with Him.

This verse calls us to ground ourselves not in what we can achieve, but in who God is. Because when everything else shifts—performance, confidence, even motivation—He doesn’t.

Let that shape how you approach life and sport: not from a place of proving something, but from a place of already being known and grounded in truth.

When John says “In the beginning was the Word,” he’s not just making a theological claim—he’s revealing the nature of reality.
That Christ is not a response to creation, but the foundation of it. He is the source of order, the logic behind love, the breath in our lungs, and the beat in our striving.

This means you were never meant to build your identity from the outside in—from applause, stats, titles, or expectations. You were made to live from the inside out—anchored in the unchanging presence of the Word made flesh.

And when life gets loud, when the season gets long, when you start wondering who you are apart from performance, you go back to the beginning—not your beginning, but His.

He was with God. He was God.

That’s not just theological poetry. That’s a call to let go of shallow definitions of success and return to the deep waters of identity in Christ. Because no matter how far you run, how much pressure you feel, or how tired you get—your story is safest in the hands of the One who started it.

Prayer:

Jesus, You are the beginning. Help me live like that’s true. When I’m tempted to earn worth through what I do, remind me that You already gave me value when You gave me Yourself. Center my heart in You—the Word that never changes. Amen.
