"But the one who stands firm to the end will be saved." – Matthew 24:13 NIV
There comes a point in every athlete's journey where motivation fades.
The excitement of a new season wears off. Progress slows. Your body is tired. Your mind is exhausted. The results you've been praying for haven't shown up yet, and you begin to wonder if it's worth continuing.
Spiritually, we experience those same moments.
Maybe you've been praying for breakthrough, but heaven feels silent. Maybe you've been fighting the same temptation, carrying the same burden, or trusting God with something that seems to have no end in sight. You love Jesus, but if you're honest, you're simply tired.
Matthew 24:13 isn't a call to sprint—it is a call to endure.
Endurance isn't glamorous. It doesn't always come with applause or recognition. It's choosing obedience when no one is watching. It's opening your Bible when you don't feel like it. It's praying when the answers haven't come. It's honoring Christ after a tough loss just as much as after a championship win.
Anyone can stay faithful when life is going well. The true test of faith comes when circumstances tempt you to quit.
As athletes, we're conditioned to embrace discomfort because we know it produces results. We train through sore muscles, push through difficult conditioning, and sacrifice immediate comfort for long-term growth. Scripture reminds us that our faith works the same way. God often develops our greatest strength during seasons we'd rather skip.
Maybe your greatest victory this week won't be a personal record, a starting position, or a win on the scoreboard.
Maybe your greatest victory is simply refusing to give up.
Because every time you choose faith over frustration, hope over discouragement, and obedience over convenience, you're becoming the athlete—and the disciple—God is shaping you to be.
Remember, Jesus never promised the journey would be easy. He promised He would be with you through it.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the strength to keep going, even when I feel weary. Help me to trust You in every season, remain faithful when the journey is difficult, and remember that my endurance brings glory to You. Keep my eyes fixed on Christ, strengthen my heart, and give me the courage to finish the race You've set before me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
