The Love That Won't Let Go – Romans 8:38-39

38For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the Love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 8:38-39 ESV

I remember when I was younger, my church would often take us to week-long Christian revival retreats. They had everything — swimming, zip-lining, horseback riding… you name it. But beyond all the fun, what made those retreats unforgettable was the worship. Every night felt like a glimpse of Heaven — powerful worship, heartfelt group devotionals, and moments where I watched some of my closest friends give their lives to Christ. It truly felt like the best week ever — a spiritual breath of fresh air.

But eventually, we packed up and went home. And with that, the emotional high faded. Life went back to normal. The fire I felt at camp slowly cooled, not out of a lack of love for Jesus, but because the distractions and routines of life crept back in.

Honestly, the season of Lent and Holy Week can feel the same. We press in during the days leading up to Easter — reading devotionals, fasting, reflecting, worshiping with intentionality. But once Easter Sunday passes, it’s easy to slip back into spiritual autopilot. Not because we don’t care, but because the hype dies down… and we forget that Easter isn't just a moment — it’s the start of a movement.

Romans 8:38–39 reminds us that God's love doesn’t fade with emotion or disappear with the end of a spiritual season. The resurrection isn’t meant to be remembered once a year — it’s meant to redefine how we live every single day. Easter is not the end of something special; it’s the beginning of something eternal. Whether it’s today, yesterday, or seven months from now — the power of what happened that morning is still true.

So the real question is this: Are we living like Jesus is still alive?

Because if He is — and He is — that changes everything.

It means we don’t have to live in fear, because even death has lost its sting.
It means we don’t have to live in shame, because the price has already been paid.
It means we don’t have to live in separation, because Romans 8 tells us nothing can cut us off from the love of God — not life, not death, not demons, not anxiety about the future, not mistakes from the past.

The resurrection gave us more than a clean slate — it gave us a new life. And that life isn’t built on how strong we feel on any given day — it’s anchored in the unshakable truth that Jesus conquered the grave and chose to dwell within us.

But here’s what happens: when the hype wears off, we forget.
We start living as if Easter came and went, as if the empty tomb is just a historical event — not a present reality. And instead of walking in the Spirit, we drift back into survival mode — weighed down by pressure, perfectionism, doubt, and distraction.

But you weren’t made to visit freedom once a year — you were made to walk in it daily.
That’s the invitation of Easter. That’s the rhythm of resurrection.
