7"Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord". – Jeremiah 17:7 ESV
What we trust in shapes every decision we make. Think about it—if you were walking and came across a bridge that looked unstable, would you still cross it? Probably not. Or would you drive a car if you weren’t sure the brakes would work? This probably wouldn’t be such a wise choice either!
Whether we realize it or not, trust guides our actions every single day. And because of that, what we choose to put our trust in truly matters. But true trust isn’t blind—it’s built on the confidence that what we rely on will hold firm.
So, with that in mind, how can we practically put our trust in the Lord?
First, if we are going to trust in the Lord, we must grow our knowledge of who He actually is. And we grow our knowledge of God by intentionally spending time abiding in His Word. This is because we don't trust in God based off what we don't know about Him, but because of what we do; and as we learn more about who God is through the scriptures, we can then begin to know more about how He can work in our own lives–because God will always be God and nothing can change this (Malachi 3:6). For example, the more knowledge I have of God being a healer throughout His Word, the more trust I can have in Him to heal me today. By growing what we know, our trust in Him will grow too; because trust is built on truth.
In addition to spending time in His Word, we must also make a daily commitment to spend time with Lord Himself. This is because a true relationship with God isn’t just knowing about Him—but about knowing Him personally. By growing our relationship with God and seeking Him above all else, we will begin to experience true freedom and also begin to see God moving in and around our lives. As we grow our connection and obey His Word, God will then reveal to us what He has in store and will open doors never imagined before–all for His glory and for our good (Romans 8:28). When we choose to follow God’s commands, we step into opportunities that only He can provide—ones that lead to purpose, fulfillment, and a life anchored in His perfect will.
By seeking to grow our knowledge and our own personal relationship with God, we will build a trust in Him that can withstand any storm. The gap that was once present because of sin, has now been filled because of Jesus Christ. And because of Jesus, we now have 24/7 access to God.
Here are some practical ways you can strengthen your trust in God this week:
- Spend intentional time in His Word – Read and meditate on scriptures that remind you of His faithfulness (e.g., Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 41:10).
- Pray with expectation – Bring your worries, needs, and desires to God, trusting that He hears and answers according to His perfect will.
- Surrender control – Identify areas where you struggle to trust Him and make a conscious effort to let go, believing that He is in control.
- Reflect on past faithfulness – Journal or recall times when God has come through for you before, reminding yourself that He is always consistent.
- Obey even when it’s hard – Take steps of faith in areas where God is calling you to act, even if you don’t fully see the outcome yet.
- Worship and give thanks – Shift your focus from worries to gratitude, praising God for who He is and what He has already done.
- Surround yourself with faith-filled community – Talk with others who can encourage and remind you of God’s faithfulness.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, Thank You for being a God who is trustworthy and unchanging. In a world full of uncertainty, remind me that I can place my full confidence in You. Strengthen my faith as I seek You in Your Word and in my daily life. Help me to surrender my fears, doubts, and need for control, knowing that You are always working for my good.
Lord, when I struggle to trust, remind me of Your past faithfulness. When I feel uncertain, fill my heart with peace. Teach me to rely on You in every decision, big or small, and to walk confidently in the path You’ve set before me.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
